The Bharat Sevashram Sangha at the request of Mr. Yashpaul Kundal, MLA and Krishan Chand, Sarpanch of Samba district, J & K reached the forward areas of Samba near Indo-Pak border on 9th October, the Thursday morning. Severe firing on the night of 7th and 8th October forced the local inhabitants to leave their homes to take shelter at Samba Kalibari. Swami Biswatmananda, General Secretary of Bharat Sevashram Sangha alongwith a group of monks and volunteers reached Samba Kalibari and met with the sufferers. Swamiji consoled these families and provided them cooked food, blankets and daily commodities. Swamiji assured all possible help till Govt. takes up the matter.

You are fully aware of disastrous landslide, cloudburst and flood in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Sreenagar is totally isolated. Millions of people are still missing. The Monks and volunteers, in spite of inaccessibility and many hurdles, reached the flood-ravaged remote villages of Surajchak, Chhatwari, Udhampur and started relief work by distributing cooked food, baby-food, clothing, blankets etc. since 8th Sept. last.
The Sangha has started more than 33 (thirty three) relief centres at Samba, Surnisar, Kapli, Panjer, Sattani, Pancheri, Dhari Udhampur, Srinagar, Surajchawk, Rang, Balandh, Thelacy, Ghogav Makh, Bensta, Pinger, Bhayla, Kapai, Nud, Indra Colony, Bariau Samba, Dhanwalt, Konain, Piala Farol, Dhiran, Bargulta, Amro, Keya, Incha Bariladona, Kella, Jandred, Satwari, Fala Mandal, Ram Nagar, etc. in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Sangha is providing cooked foods to around 10,000 afflicted people thrice a day through 12 relief centres. Besides, the Sangha is distributing blankets, utensils, tarpaulins, wheat flour, edible oil, iodized salt, dry foods, mineral water, candles, etc. among the affected people and study materials to the school children. Apart from this the Sangha has been providing medical facilities by specialist doctors with medicines and ambulance. Sangha monks and volunteers have been gathered from all over the country to give succour to the suffering people in this trying situation of the nation.
Though it is hard to serve the people in these hilly mountain areas, but the monks and volunteers have been able to reach to them with relief materials and other daily needs. We are still searching people trapped in the sloppy devastated hilly villages. The relief camps will continue to serve the people for sine die. Temporary sheds are the prime need for them to come out of this grave situation with medical facilities with gynecologist, general physician, pediatrician. The Sangha is in process to make this in place shortly. The Sangha desires to continue relief work till the people feel themselves in a safe position.
